108 % in tune witn Aindra Prabhu´s letter and this spirit of purity.
Mi nota anterior era en relación a esta importante carta-respuesta de Aindra Prabhu:
The ISKCON temple management asked devotees to submit thoughts on a "Vision and Master Plan for ISKCON Vrndavana" in October 1995. Here is the letter Aindra Prabhu wrote in response to that request:
1/11/'95
Dear XXXXX Prabhu,
Thank you for inviting me to share some of my thoughts and feelings concerning the development of our ISKCON Vrndavana Project. I guess I should take this opportunity to try to speak out and be heard. Here are a few suggestions which I hope may be of some value to all conerned.
1.) Firstly, I strongly feel that there should be a "Mission Statement" eg. "To create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to progressive attainment and propagation of the goal of unalloyed devotional service."
Purity is the force. Purity means purity of purpose. Pure purpose is that which consist of the real egoistical desire to satisfy Guru and Krishna based on the principles of unalloyed uttama bhakti aimed at the attainment of prema. Impure purpose cosist of false egoistical pursuits of dharma, artha, kama and moksa which are opposed to the principles of Vrndavana life or Vraja bhakti (kaitava dharma). Let those who are prepared to or seriously willing to be prepared for accepting tapasya (sadhu jivan) for getting the sreya-uttamam (Radha-Krishna prema) and going back home back to godhead be granted the privilage of residence at Srila Prabhupada's home, the Lord's topmost abode. Others who are bereft of their good sense and who persist with their addictions to the gratifications of their tongues, bellies and genitals should only be allowed to stay a maximum of 3 days and made to take their business elsewhere lest they make a mokery of Vraja vasa. Those who will remain but due to either worldly mindedness of spiritual short sightedness prefer to consciously or unconscously flaunt their affluence to incite a kind of jealous compitition between the "haves" and the "have nots" both within the ISKCON community as well as in relation to local brajabasis and who try to audaciously establish the aquisition of gross and subtle peronal aggrandizements as a socially acceptible standard should at least be tactfully made to be seen for what they are. We don't want to encourage the guru-bogis. The Lord's Dhama is not meant to be used for fulfilling the illusory aims of the thrid class materialistic devotees (prakrita bhaktas). Vraja vasa is meant for those who have retired from the grihamedhi mentality, materialistic pursuits and the bodily conception of life. Visaya chariya kabe suddha ha'be mono hama herabo sri-brndavana. There should be no compromise. Not that we come to make Vrndavana the business capitol of the world; International Livestock Exchange for Pimps and Prostitutes and Chewing the Thorny Twigs.
2.) All other aspects of the Master Plan should reflect on the consideration of whether or not this "Mission Statement" is served.
3.) Let the ease-loving, sense-gratifying so-called brahmacharis go out for book distribution to learn the meaning of selfless sacrifice. Otherwise they should be made to go back to their mothers.
4.) Srila Prabhupada has definitely instruted that unmarried women should not be permitted to stay at ISKCON Vrndavana. Unmarried women means sex life. Generally the have the hopes of victimizing the spiritually weaker brahmacharis to become their so-called husbands for fulfilling their mixed material and spiritual desires. Their presence may naturally distract a man who with a little protection, good counsil and practice would otherwise make steady progress of the path of renunciation. To give them service engagement in the temple, free prasadam etc. is to aggrivate an already agitated atmosphere for prospective sense gratification. This naturally encourages Dhama aparadha. The idea is to decrease the fever not increase. Perhpas older unmarried women could be givenfacility if they agree to shave their head and/or at least wear the pure undecorative, less attractive white cloth as a Gaudiya Vaisnavi and made to sign a document that they are finished with all sexual or marital fantacies. Krishna will be their "Husband." If they should fall from that position, they should be regarded with embarrassment like the vantasis. If they are not prepared for such, they should be allowed to stay for 3 days only and moved on to another service situation within our society. ISKCON Vrndavana is not the place for them. Still, a few younger unmarried women of marriageable age might try to independently make arrangements for the fooding and lodging seperate from the ISKCON facilities, which we won't be able to have much control over, but the ISKCON management should neither encourage by giving them service assignments nor have to be held responsible for their problem or the problems they tend to create. Our broad ISKCON movement has plenty of other facilities to accomodate them with lesser risk.
5.) Srila Prabhupada has told that ISKCON Vrndavana is a lazy-intelligent preaching project. Lazy intelligence is higher than active intelligence. The active-intelligent gosthyanandi travels all over the world for the benefit of the greater family. By his preaching, he brings the conditioned souls up to the standard of pure Krishna consciousness. This is his contribution to the upliftment of society. The lazy-intelligent preacher is also gostyanandi at heart. The only differene is that he makes use of a more valuable situation which he serves to help generate an ideal atmosphere for centerally attracting the society to come to him without his having so much expense and trouble for going here and there and accomplishes the work of 300 men. ISKCON Vrndavana and Mayapur are meant to serve as becon light to show the way for other ISKCON centers and the world at large. That is our preaching. Therefore, those involved with this lazy-intelligent preaching project should at least be keenly aware of their responsibility towards the greater ISKCON family and live as exemplary detached grhasta brahmacharis or as sadhus without petty personal motivations. A tree is dependent on its roots. ISKCON Vrndavana can be compaired to the root of the tree of ISKCON with all its branches. Our diversified endeavors to "expand" our active-intelligent preaching arms to encorperate newer and newer branches, ie. Lucknow, Kanpur etc. cannot be given nearly as much priority importance as concentrating our lazy-intelligent brain on understanding the function Vrndavana ISKCON serves as the root of our whole society. Srila Prabhupada has written that even if for any reason all other ISKCON centers should have to be closed down, our Vrndavana and Mayapur centers must remain open at all cost. This statement shoul serve to show the relative importance of our Vrndavana yatra. If the roots of the tree are allowed to dry up or become rotten, then how much the tree must suffer. This much lesson we should be able to learn from the tamal tree incident. It was easy to plant a new tamal tree. It only took a few minutes. It will not be so easy to plant a new ISKCON tree. Proper attention must be given to our roots. I'm encouraged that our present management seems to be considerably more concerned with the internal and external beautification of our Vrndavana yatra proper. That XXXXXX Prabhu is putting a good deal of his energy into recreating the beautiful atmosphere of the Krishna-Balaram Mandir is commendable and is certainly a step in the right direction. This plae should be an international showcase, not an international show bottle. "Everything should be first class, better than first class." Not for us but for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada and Krishna.
6.) In short, it is best if the devotees who live in the Vrndavana ISKCON community will all be paramahamsa (1st class Vaisnava). If not paramahamsa at least they should behave as hamsa (2nd class Vaisnava). We should always remember that to eat very nicely, to sleep very comfortably, to have a nice arrangement for begetting children and having nice families and to acumulate our defense funds in the bank accounts, these are not very wonderful achievements. Eating, sleeping, mating and defending are the animal propensities. Kastan kaman arhate vid-bhujam ye. At least we should not be like the crow who delights in rubbish. We should be the swan, hamsa. The first characteristic of a hamsa is that he seriously desires to become a self-realized soul and therefore practices to accept only the nectar which is favorable for the cultivation of unalloyed devotion and rejects the unfavorable poison in pursuance of his highest esteemed goal of Krishna prema. Narthoyas ceha karmbhih. This is the basis of the anukula sankalpa of a sadhaka, without which one does not even have the adhikar for approaching a bona fide spiritual master what to speak of living in the land of Vraja, the topmost abode of Srimati Radharani and Her Krishna.
I hope these ideas and experienes will serve the feet of the Vaisnavas.
Your humble servant,
insignificant Aindra dasa Krpanacharya
"We should understand that we have got a separate business, real business. That is called self-realization, that 'I am not this body.' This is self-realization." |
"Everything will be all right, by Krishna's Grace... Now we are seated in these bodies of maya, so it is sure that from time to time there will be disturbances... So don't worry about it, just go on chanting Hare Krishna and engage your energy for Krishna in the best way open to you. |
"A child is a rare gift given by Krishna, but at the same time a great responsibility; every parent has the responsibility to see that his child grows up K.C. I know that you understand this, and will always make Krishna the center of your home." — conMerkin Gouranga Candra.
"One must know how to connect to Krishna. Krishna is everywhere. This is Krishna consciousness."
