BEAL, Samuel. (n. Davenpot, Inglaterra, 1825 -m. 1889). Orientalista.
Graduado en Cambridge (1847), fue director del Brahman College
(1848/50). Ordenado sacerdote en 1852, ingresó en la armada como
capellán e instructor, prestando servicios (1856/58) durante la guerra
de China. En 1877 profesor de chino en el University College de
Londres. Dio a conocer el buddhismo a través de textos chinos,
traduciendo algunas obras imprescindibles para el conocimiento de esa
religión, entre las cuales el Buddha Charita de Asvaghosha,
traducida del sánscrito al chino por Dharmarakṣa hacia el 420 y del
chino al inglés por Beal en 1875. (Incluida en Libros sagrados de
Oriente, Ed. Latinoamericana S.A. México, 1960, bajo el título de El Evangelio de Buda) (Diccionario Biografico de Escritores Esotericos).

Libro religioso al que conceden gran autoridad en Birmania y que consta
de tres partes, tituladas respectivamente: Weenec, Thoque-tan y
A-be-día-na. Compónese a su vez la primera de cinco libros que encierran
los mandamientos de Gaudama, la segunda de tres y la tercera de siete.
El Bedagat tiene gran analogía con las creencias budistas, lo que hace
suponer que está inspirado o basado en la religión india. La tradición
afirma que estos libros fueron copiados con permiso y por intercesión
divinos en un sólo día, cuatro siglos y medio después de la muerte de
Gaudama, reinando Doketakahma-nee. Cerca de mil años después fueron
traducido estos libros, cuyo original se ha perdido, de su lengua
(el-ho) a la maghada o palí, por el sabio Boke-da-gan-thah, en el
reinado de Nam-ma.
Las Cuatro Nobles VerdadesBuda explicó que existen cuatro nobles verdades que rigen todo:1- El existir como una personalidad separada condena al sufrimiento y al dolor.2- La causa suprema de la miseria es el deseo de poseer y conservar lo poseído.3- La liberación del dolor se logra desechando todos los deseos salvo el del recto conocimiento.4- El sendero de la liberación y de la cesación de todos los opuestos es el óctuple noble sendero, el sendero de la inmortalidad.Los diez mandamientos del Buda.1- No matar, es decir ser inofensivo en todo y con todos.2- No robar.3- No cometer adulterio.4- No mentir.5- No beber bebidas alcohólicas y vivir una vida sencilla, ya que la sencillez es signo de sabiduría, mientras que la complicación lo es de ignorancia.6- Comer en los momentos establecidos.7- No adornarse.8- Practicar la humildad.9- No participar en diversiones mundanas.10- No tener ni aceptar posesiones.Las dos grandes leyes1-Cada individuo es exactamente lo que él se ha ganado el derecho de ser y está en el lugar que se ha ganado el derecho de estar. Esta es la ley de la reencarnación.2- Cada efecto es en la naturaleza igual a la causa que lo produce. En el mundo espiritual la acción y la reacción son iguales. Esta es la ley del karma.Las dos grandes virtudes1- La sabiduría más grande es ser capaz de reconocer que el bien existe en todas las cosas. Aprender a no juzgar ni criticar las cosas sino simplemente amarlas y servir sin egoísmo y sin reserva.2- Practicar la renuncia del yo.El noble óctuple sendero que se debe seguir para liberarse de la rueda del nacimiento y la muerte.1- Recta creencia.2- Recta aspiración.3- Recta palabra.4- Recta conducta.5- Recto medio de vida.6- Recto esfuerzo.7- Recta atención.8- Recta meditación.Extraido del libro “Las enseñanzas del glorioso Buddha ” de Many P.
