Kartik (Damodar) is the best, the purest of purifiers, and most glorious of all months. Kartik month is particularly dear to Lord Sri Krishna. This month is full of bhakta vatsalya. Any vrata, even the smallest, will yield huge results. The effect of performing a Kartik Vrata lasts for one hundred lifetimes, Kartik or the festival of offering lamps to Lord Krishna, glorifies Lord Krishna’s pastime of being bound with ropes by Mother Yashoda.

Hear Srimad Bhagavatam, daily in association of exalted Vaisnavas, if possible. All other duties should be given up in favor of hearing the scriptures from sadhus during this month. It is most beneficial to recite and read Gajendra Moksha Lila-stava from 8th canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, which teaches complete surrender/dependence of Supreme Lord.

So we are celebrating the month of Damodara. That is a very special month. In this month we celebrate so many loving pastimes. Krishnas love is simultaneous. He has the love relationship with the Gopis, His most dear. He has the love relationship with the Gopas, His intimate friends. He has the loving relationship with Yashoda, Nanda, with everybody. And it is a very exciting month because Krishna is very sweet and very happy. Actually Kartika means Radharani, it's the month ...

Boat Pastime at Manasi Ganga-Srimati Radharani and the gopis came to the bank of Manasi Ganga and wanted to take a boat across. Manasi Ganga used to be a large lake, but has gotten much smaller over the years. They were carrying their yogurt pots and other milk preparations. Unfortunately only one very old boat was available and the boatman was just a young boy dressed in a large cloak, with a peacock feather on his head. He agreed and they then bargained for a while over the...

"O sakhi! When our dearmost Nanda-nandana Sri Krishna dresses Himself in a most extraordinary fashion and plays upon His flute, then even the foolish deer, hearing the melody of the flute, approach Nanda-nandana along with their husbands (who are known as the krsna-sara deer) and
begin to glance upon Him very affectionately with their large eyes. We know the meaning of their glancing. With their enormous eyes, expanded like the petals of a lotus flower, they are offering worship at the lotus feet of Sri Krishna and accepting His invitation, which He extends by casting loving, sidelong glances. Truly, the lives of these deer are blessed."

We cannot avoid God's seeing or God's hearing or God's touching. In the (Bhagavad-gita 9.26) Lord Krsna says,
patram puspam phalam toyam
yo me bhaktya prayacchati
tad aham bhakty-upahrtam
asnami prayatatmanah

"If somebody offers Me flowers, fruits, vegetables, or milk with devotional love, I accept and eat it." Now, how is He eating? We cannot see Him eat, but He is eating. We experience this daily: when we offer Krsna food according to the ritualistic process, we see that the taste of the food changes immediately. This is practical. So God eats, but because He is full in Himself, He does not eat like us. If someone offers me a plate of food, I may finish it, but God is not hungry, so when He eats He leaves the things as they are. Purnasya purnam adaya purnam evavasisyate: God is so full that He can eat all the food that we offer and still it remains as it is. He can eat with His eyes. This is stated in the Brahma-samhita. Angani yasya sakalendriya-vrttimanti: "Every limb of the body of God has all the potencies of the other limbs." For example, we can see with our eyes, but we cannot eat with our eyes. But if God, simply sees the food we have offered, that is His eating.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Begs Charity from Srimati Sacimata
Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu asked Sacimata to observe Ekadasi, by fasting. In Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila 15th chapter you’ll find:
eka dina matara pade kariya pranama
prabhu kahe,—mata, more deha eka dana
mata bale,—tai diba, ya tumi magibe
prabhu kahe,—ekadasite anna na khaibe
[Cc. Adi 15.8-9]

One day Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu fell down at the feet of His mother and requested her to give Him one thing in charity. His mother replied, “My dear son, I will give You whatever You ask.” Then the Lord said, “My dear mother, please do not eat grains on the Ekadasi day.”
Mahaprabhu asked His mother to fast on Ekadasi day. “My mother please don’t eat grains on Ekadasi day.” And Sacimata accepted and from that day forward, Sacimata started to observe Ekadasi. Prior to this, Sacimata was not fasting. She was taking grains on Ekadasi day because according to the smarta brahmanas, only those who are widows, women, will fast on Ekadasi day. But those who are not widows they won’t observe. That was the prevailing culture at the time. So Sacimata was not observing Ekadasi fasting. But Mahaprabhu requested her to now follow. “Mahaprabhu fell down at the feet of His Mother and requested Her to give one thing in charity. Sacimata said, “my dear Son I will give you whatever you ask.” Then Mahaprabhu said, “My dear Mother please don’t eat grains on Ekadasi day.” From that day, Sacimata observed Ekadasi.

Srsti-sthiti-pralaya-sadhana-saktir eka chayeva yasya bhuvanani bibharti durga [Bs. 5.44].
This durga power is there. You have seen the picture of Durga. She has got ten hands and different types of weapons. Now the Durga-puja will be performed. You can see the Durga deity. So ten hands, the material nature. Ten hands means ten directions: north, south, east, west, and then the four corners, eight, and up and down. So ten directions. So this material nature, Durga, is controlling the whole universe, ten directions. Srsti-sthiti-pralaya-sadhana-saktir eka [Bs. 5.44]. Eka. Chayeva. But how she is working? Not independently.Srsti-sthiti-pralaya-sadhana-saktir eka chayeva. She is working just like shadow. The original body and the shadow body, they are two different. But the shadow body moves if the original moves. So therefore this word is used, chayeva. This vast power, material nature... It is a very powerful... Srsti-sthiti. It can create; it can destroy. At any moment, if there is some earthquake, the whole sea water may come and cover the land portion, and within the sea you can see one island has come out. Everyone has got this experience. So srsti-sthiti-pralaya. One side, pralaya; one side, creation. So this can be done by the material nature. But how she is working? She is working under the direction of somebody else. That is Govinda. And Govinda also says in the Bhagavad-gita, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram: [Bg. 9.10] "She is working under My direction."

So far killing or destroying is concerned, that Durga power, Krishna’s power, that is sufficient. He doesn't require to come to kill the demons. She is engaged. You have seen that Durga is killing the demon, that asura. You have seen the Durga's picture? The asura is there and the lion is there, and she has taken a bunch of hair of the asura, and the trident is pushed on his chest, and the lion has captured him. So he is overpowered. So the asura is overpowered, but if the asura makes more attempt to save himself, then there are, only two hands are engaged of Durga to kill the asura, one catching his hair and one the trident. Only two hands are engaged. But if he shows more power, then there are eight hands more, reserved with different types of weapons. So you cannot overcome the ruling, or the control, of the material nature. That is not possible. Daivi hy esa gunamayi mama maya duratyaya [Bg. 7.14].

The sound of the flute awakens feelings of love toward Sri Krsna and an intense desire to meet with Him. When the gopis heard that sound, their hearts were overwhelmed with prema. The gopis became completely infatuated and, in a secluded place, they began to describe the form and qualities of Sri Krsna and the powerful influence of His flute to their intimate companions.

The Appearance Day Of Lord Vamana deva...
The Story of Bali Maharaja and Lord Vaman Dev
Maharaja Pariksit inquired Suka: The Supreme God is the proprietor of everything. Why did He beg three paces of land from Bali Maharaja like a poor man, and when He got the gift for which He had begged, why did He nonetheless arrest Bali Maharaja? I am very much anxious to know the mystery of these contradictions.
