Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja

There are two bhagavāns. One is guru, who is āśraya-vigraha-bhagavān, the Lord as the abode of service, and the other is Krishna,

Srila Sanatan Goswami in his Bṛhād-bhāgavatāmṛta(1.1.7) describes the relative positions of bhakti and liberation and the devotees attitude towards them:

This is part of an old article I wrote many years ago for our first magazine on Lord Jagannath. I'm posting it today in honor of Snana-yātrā.
===================

Hātī Veśa

Devotee: Why did Srila Prabhupada give sannyāsa to persons who later fell down?

1) A non-envious person never criticizes sādhus.
2) He does not consider demigods to be independent lords, for his intelligence is only absorbed in Sri Krishna. Yet he does not disregard the demigods.
3) He has faith in Sri Guru and all other superior devotees as befits each of them.
4) He offers respect to the bhakti scriptures.

In honor of his appearance day (today the 29th of August), we are posting the following excerpt from chapter one of a new book coming soon from Gopal Jiu Publications, called, "When Good Fortune Arises". The bracketed matter will be endnotes.

An excerpt from Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Maharaja's book,Mathura Meets Vrindavan.

Caitanya-caritāmṛta (madhya 24.318) states that Śrīmad Bhāgavatam is unlimited:

The following is an excerpt from a lecture by Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Maharaja, that was published in his book, "Worship of Sri Guru."

The ISKCON Desire Tree site devotees have kindly posted a few more lectures from our European tour this year. Below are links and short descriptions:

Below is an excerpt from an article by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur we printed in issue 20 of Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu. Although it's been published a number of times, it remains one of my favorite instructions from Srila Saraswati Thakur. -- MD.

Krishna Kund and I leave tomorrow morning for Delhi, where we will be for a week giving some classes, then we go to Europe for a four month tour. A number of devotees have asked us about our schedule, the following is a partial list (which may change).

Regarding personal association with Srila Prabhupada versus association with him via his recorded words: I don't think this is actually an issue for anyone. A few years ago a grhastha couple with a nine year-old child named Radharani visited our ashram. The little girl fell in love with one of the pictures we had on our wall of Krishna so we gave it to her. A few months later when we saw them again, Radharani excitedly came running up to me, “I have a gift for you! I made it myself!” and she gave me tw...

The Mission of Devotion

The new magazine is finally ready! Amongst other topics that come up in this issue is a description of Jagannath and Lakshmi's marriage. On the Ekadasi before Snana-yatra, Jagannath and Laksmi are married and their clothes are tied together. After Snana-yatra, Jagannath becomes sick and for a week Lakshmi doesn't sleep while she nurses her husband....

Our ISKCON Bhubaneswar temple asked me this year to write something about the meaning of Vyāsa-pūjā. While my article was aimed at an audience of my godbrothers and godsisters, I also tried to present in terms of universal principles. I hope it brings some pleasure to the devotees.
